Untitled

Audio on Vinyl, 2017

Continued focus on audio and visual samples from West Africa led to a residency at the British Library (in association with Sound & Music 'Embedded' programme) which was used as a platform for research and to generate new ideas. As composer in residence, new audio material was presented at the British Library 'Ghana Beats' event, which also invited Aleks Kolkowski, a fellow Embedded resident to reinterpret Achiampong’s audio work, using wax cylinder phonographs.

The 'Untitled' project presents a synth-driven score on side one, and features a selection of field recordings (that the artist has amassed with the permission of Christ Reformed Church in Peckham, in partnership with South London Gallery) on side two. Some of this audio is featured in the video work Sunday's Best.

Embedded is a Sound and Music composer and creative artist development programme, funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The programme places a selection of composers from a range of disciplines into extended relationships with leading national arts organisations.

SLG Local was a long-term project which brought newly commissioned and existing contemporary art works, films, videos and installations from public and private collections to a broad range of social settings in the vicinity of South London Gallery.
