PAN AFRICAN FLAG FOR THE RELIC TRAVELLERS' ALLIANCE

(BRINGERS OF LIFE)

Flag Design, 2021 - 2023

PAN AFRICAN FLAG FOR THE RELIC TRAVELLERS' ALLIANCE (BRINGERS OF LIFE) forms part of Relic Traveller, a multi-disciplinary project manifesting in performance, audio, moving image and prose.

Part of the second series of flags produced to accompany the wider Relic Traveller projects, this design has featured in various programs which include the Liverpool Biennial in 2021, and the Wayfinder exhibition at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in 2023

The Pan African colours have been configured into symbols and forms to suggest various elements whilst the colours of green, black, and red reflect African lands, its people and the struggles the continent has endured, respectively. The field of yellow gold represents a new day and prosperity. This particular design relates to the bringing of life, its fortification and maintenance through the eternal reverence of the elements.

The work does not frame Pan African Futurism as a utopian vision of the African continent, but aims to consider aspects of responsibility in relation to the hidden tremors of history.
