Ain't No Place Like Home

Mixed Media Installation, 2018

Presented at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, a mixed-media installation exploring the dynamics of religion and domesticity within African diasporic communities living in the global West.

The Holy Cloud series highlight the peculiarity in the pervasive representation of Jesus in contemporary African society; pale skin and European features — an aftereffect of slavery and colonisation on the African continent.

The remixed family photos of his Glyth series contrasts familial intimacy with pious imagery dominated by white bodies.

The film Sunday’s Best, considers how belief systems within the African diaspora are inflected by Christian imperialism.
